This is a side project I am doing for my position in the gait lab of Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare. I am a lab tech there and we use a motion capture setup for some of our testing. Because of this, my boss though it would be cool if we could somehow create something to let the kids we help puppet around 3d models after the testing is done. Since I have schooling in creating and rigging 3d models, I started the task. With the help of one of our other techs, we setup the system so it would stream our mocap data live to Unity. Then, the task of creating the stage and models fell on my shoulders.
I look forward to continuing to add more models and stages to this project. Seeing the kids reaction to being able to control 3d models with their own movement has been amazing and one of the most fulfilling things I have ever done professionally.
Now, not all of these characters and locations are implemented into the project yet. I am waiting to get the OK to use them in the project as some of the characters are not originals or copyright free and I want to respect those who created the original IPs. I made them and they are ready for use if I get the OK, otherwise, they hopefully will make nice portfolio pieces.
Not in the project yet, but will be a background asset someday.
Because we're a gait lab, we only test data for the legs and trunk of the body, not the arms or head. They are fully rigged though, so maybe someday.
